Magistrate/Municipal
Magistrate Court is often called small claims court on the non-criminal side. In Magistrate Court most crimes are punishable by 30 days in jail. Magistrate Court is run by the County and Municipal Court is run by a City. Therefore, if you are arrested or ticketed by a Sheriff or Highway Patrolman, you will normally be in Magistrate Court. If you are arrested or ticketed by a city police officer, you will normally be in Municipal Court.
